Nobody Laughs at a Lion

Author: Paul Bright
Illustrator: Matt Buckingham

This is another story about the lion family. Pa Lion is boasting that he is king of the jungle because he is the best. Ma Lion asks what exactly he is best at. With everything Pa Lion tries, running, creeping, climbing trees, he finds there is another creature in the jungle who is better, and the animals start to laugh (quietly) at Pa Lion. But not for long!

Quiet!

Author: Paul Bright
Illustrator: Guy Parker-Rees

Quiet! was the second picture book I had published. Baby Leo lion is fast asleep and Pa Lion says he will eat any creature that makes a noise and wakes Leo up. I tried writing lots of other stories about being asleep or being woken up before finally writing this one. That happens with a lot of my stories – I write lots of not-very-good versions before getting one that I’m happy with. When somebody does finally make a loud, loud noise, will Leo wake up? And who is it making the noise?

Quiet! was shortlisted for the Blue Peter Book Award in 2004 – it didn’t win, but I did get a Blue Peter badge!

Quiet is also available with a CD, narrated by Jamie Theakston and Doon Mackichan.

I’m Not Going Out There

Author: Paul Bright
Illustrator: Ben Cort

The boy who appeared in Under the Bed is back, but this time he’s the one under the bed, and he’s hiding. There are plenty of strange and scary things in the house, including witches washing their knickers and a headless ghost eating toast, butwho or what is he hiding from? I’m Not Going Out There! won the Stockport Schools Book Award in 2007.

Under the Bed

Author: Paul Bright
Illustrator: Ben Cort

This was the first picture book I had published, and it’s one of my favourites. I tried lots of different versions of stories about things under the bed – long stories and short stories, and funny stories and scary stories. In the end I wrote this one about all the different bugs and beasts and animals living under the bed, including a not-very brave monster who sucks his thumb, and is scared of …. I wonder what?

Under the Bed was given a Silver Award by Practical Pre-School Magazine in 2003.
